Christina Ravelo, Distinguished Professor of Ocean Sciences, is currently serving as UCSC’s Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (VPAA). As VPAA, Christina Ravelo provides administrative leadership in key academic areas, including: program development and review, academic personnel processes, leadership and instructor development, accreditation, assessment, and faculty policy.
Prior leadership roles at UCSC include serving as Associate Dean of the Sciences focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, Chair of the Ocean Sciences department, and Chair of the Committee on Academic Personnel.
Christina Ravelo, the proud daughter of immigrants, grew up in the LA area. She received a B.S. in Geology and B.A. in Anthropology from Stanford University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. She was a post-doc at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab at Princeton University and was hired as a faculty member at UCSC in 1992. Her research interests are in the ocean’s role in climate change, paleoceanography, and light stable isotope geochemistry.
