Faculty Community Networking Program

The Faculty Community Networking Program was created to provide structures for faculty community, development, and support. Originally created through a grant from the UC Office of the President, the program now continues into its second year with funding from the CP/EVC.  Groups have been formed to support faculty in each of the following five demographics:

  • African-American/Black/Caribbean (chaired by Courtney Bonam, cbonam@ucsc.edu)
  • Asian American/Pacific Islander (chaired by L.S. Kim, lskim@ucsc.edu)
  • Disabilities & Chronic Illness (chaired by Megan Moodie, mmoodie@ucsc.edu)                                              *Will begin convening in Fall 2021
  • Indigenous (chaired by Judith Scott, jascott@ucsc.edu)
  • Latinx/Chicanx (chaired by Juan Poblete, jpoblete@ucsc.edu)
  • Women in STEM (chaired by Sri Kurniawan, skurnia@ucsc.edu)

Each group is open to any interested faculty (including Senate faculty, lecturers, and other faculty titles), with a goal of engaging faculty across ranks and disciplines to improve faculty retention and success. Group chairs were selected through an open call in fall quarter.

Groups meet monthly, and have been asked to identify meaningful strategies or initiatives the institution should consider to increase individual or collective faculty well-being and success, as well as to improve faculty retention for members of underrepresented groups.

As we continue to work remotely, meetings will take place virtually using Zoom; please RSVP in order to receive the Zoom meeting ID. If you can’t make the next meeting, but are interested in future meetings, please check this site for future meeting announcements, or contact the group lead who can let you know once future meetings have been scheduled. If you have any questions, feel free to write me at vpaa@ucsc.edu.
